Band member and actor Sudhanshu Pandey stated that he had known Oberoi for about 20 years and that he had witnessed the highs and lows of his life. He explained that knowing the education and lifestyle of Oberoi, it was difficult for anyone who knew him to believe the allegations of rape. Pandey said that Oberoi had always been the most chivalrous of them.

Pooja Bedi called Oberoi a "best friend" at age 15 and said that neither his friends nor his colleagues had ever heard of the plaintiff. However, she said that Oberoi had mentioned that a woman had "completely harbaded, pursued, intimidated and threatened her as well". "It is unfortunate to see such a nice man being subjected to something like this, the damage to reputation, the family trauma are unacceptable to me." A FIR was registered at the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai under Articles 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code against Oberoi. According to the police, the actor-singer allegedly raped the woman on the pretext of marrying, reportedly Asian News International .

ANI indicates that he was sent into police custody until May 9.
