Kollywood is currently going through a phase of encashment of franchises. Now, director Sakthi Chidambaram has tried to capitalize on the popularity of his hit comedy of 2002 Charlie Chaplin, which has been redone in six Indian languages.
However, 16 years later with Charlie Chaplin 2, Sakthi Chidambaram fails to recreate the ancient magic. With the exception of the two veteran Prabhus – Prabhu Deva and Prabhu Ganesan, the others are all new to the franchise comedy. Basically, the film presents comic situations that, on paper, may have made the team laugh, but that the execution on the screen falls flat. Thiru (Prabhu Deva) operates a marital site and is credited with 99 successful marriages. But it is the marriage proposal of 100 [] that brings the turning point in history. When he is sitting at Dr. Ramakrishnan's clinic (Prabhu Ganesan), he falls in love with a daughter Sara (Nikki Galrani). Due to a misunderstanding, he thinks she will die in 15 days. However, he soon realizes that it was his friend who had this rare disease and that she was Dr. Ramakrishnan's daughter. Everything is settled, but on the eve of the wedding, at an evening between singles, Thiru is invited by her friends to send a nasty video message to WhatsApp to Sara, causing more damage.
Charlie Chaplin 2 has no stories or amusing situations other than the usual dialogues that denigrate women, the objectification of actresses, and carefully choreographed songs with silly lyrics , including a song on a beach. There are five songs in the two-hour movie that drag it. The idea seems to be to make Prabhu Deva, a dance star, an action hero capable of doing comedy. There is no logic because the narration is not consistent and the director seems to have taken the audience for granted.
The film begins with Prabhu Deva, who alone hits a dozen idiots and the scene has nothing to do with history. In another scene out of nowhere, a glamorous Adam Sharma (supposed to be a psychology student) comes out of a flashing red sports car and tells our hero Prabhu Deva that he's handsome and that he's pretty good. she loves him. Charlie Chaplin 2 is in preparation for a long time, what we can see in the final product.
