HS Prannoy outclbaded Abhinav Manota 21-12, 21-11 in 28 minutes at the BWF World Championships to enter the second round of the women's singles contest. The day before, Chinese superstar Lin Dan came back in the years and quickly began his challenge at the World Badminton Championships on Monday. The 34-year-old is looking for a sixth world title. In front of a partisan crowd in Nanjing, "Super Dan" did the light work of Dutchman Mark Caljouw, winning 21-14, 21-14 in 49 minutes. Viktor Axelsen, Denmark's champion and seed and title world champion, was even more energetic, taking only 26 minutes to beat Duarte Nuno Anjo of Portugal 21-8, 21-7 in an imbalance. Shi Yuqi, China's third favorite, was crowned 21-13 and 21-11 winners against Adam Mendrek of the Czech Republic.
