Danielle Panabaker did not receive an episode of The CW The Flash for her directorial debut. Her mission was to bring Nora West Allen's story to life (which takes place far into the future – travel back in time!).

The 18th episode of this season (broadcast Tuesday at age 8/7) also reminds one of the long-awaited revelation that Nora traveled back in time under the tutelage of none other than Reverse- Flash, which made Barry angry, and those emotions do not cool right away. TVLine spoke to Panabaker about her debut behind the camera and critical scenes that she was able to watch.
TVLINE | What was the most important or interesting challenge that this scenario presented you as a director?
This particular scenario takes place largely in 2049 – that is the story of Nora, so we look to the future – and I think it was the biggest challenge, create a future world of 30 years with an episodic budget for television. This allowed everyone to be really creative and to excel, but it was certainly a challenge.
TVLINE | When we stopped, things had become super intense after the disclosure of Nora's secret. Are there a lot of WestAllen family emotions?
Absolutely. I mean, this story will actually continue even after this episode, in 519, but yes, the betrayal that, according to Barry, is devastating to him. And as parents, they have to face this struggle that we have seen differently this season, but not at this level of "how to be a parent" and what should they do.
TVLINE | I do not remember seeing Grant like that in a scene and maybe neither. Barry's reaction was so explosive that it was quite surprising.
I mean, Reverse-Flash is his biggest villain. He killed his mother in front of him, so to find out that your daughter had lined up on him … I do not know how you'll get out of it.
TVLINE | Do you think that an episode that speaks more of emotions, of plot, is more accessible for a new director than he had given you something heavy in the action ?
I do not know more accessible. . It's certainly a different challenge and, fortunately, it's a language that I speak as an actor and have often studied the characters. I'm not sure that a director for the first time who was not an actor would have easily understood the nuances of these characters. I also have the chance to live with all these characters for 110 episodes, so I know their stories deeply and intimately.
TVLINE | Just before you called, the CW published pictures of this episode and there is one from Eobard in his future prison cell with Barry watching him. Tease the mood of this scene.
When I read my screenplay, I was delighted to shoot this scene, especially, from the very beginning. I think at the beginning of the season, Eobard wrote a sentence where he says [to Nora]: "If your father knew it, he would be here in a flash," and that's true. it's an incredible scene between two incredible actors. They are so talented, so talented, and the performances are so superimposed and so intense. It's a really cool moment.
TVLINE | I also see interesting things happen with reflections in the glbad. It's very interesting.
I had a lot of fun with that. This set can be a little difficult because it is a little bit constraining, but I also tried to use what I could to tell the story visually as well.
TVLINE | The episode is called "Godspeed", which is of course a DC Comics character. How does this come into play here?
I feel lucky to make one if the few episodes of this season are really those of a nasty speedster. Obviously, we have the Flash reversed all season, but it does not run, so I immediately called and asked for all the Godspeed comics I could get my hands on. Godspeed is somehow Nora's first enemy [as a speedster] and I think it has something really special about it.
TVLINE | And in this episode, what about Caitlin?
We pick up on that in episode 17, noting how shocked everyone was when this bomb came out and very quickly, the Flash team made the decision to read Nora's diary. This is how we go back in the origins of Nora.
TVLINE | A little further: Icicle (played by Kyle Secor) is back the week after. What is he doing?
He has an unfinished job, and he has a plan for which he needs Caitlin and, interestingly, his mother. He returns to town to find his daughter and see if he can use his meta abilities to his advantage.
TVLINE | How are things with Caitlin and Carla (Susan Walters) today?
A little rocky, as usual. A little iced. But I really enjoyed the fact that we had introduced her so much into the series and that we saw Caitlin's relationship with her and with her family. It is important that her mother be present for this sequence.
TVLINE | Could there be an evolution, a development of this mother-daughter relationship?
I think so, yes. You know, Caitlin has matured over the years and I think she may be open enough to see her mother's remorse for the mistakes she might have made.
TVLINE | Do you want to describe things in the same way between Caitlin Killer Frost and now as pretty simpatico?
Yeah. I like that this season they have really done a good job, in my opinion, by exploring their relationship with each other and allowing them to coexist. I think that they would always handle situations differently, but Killer Frost is noticeably less acrimonious.
TVLINE | When I spoke to Sarah Carter, she was so excited that you, her former cast member of Shark play the most formidable enemy of Cicada II.
layer on emission. Selfishly, I think it's an incredible story for Caitlin, that she's not affected by Cicada's powers. 08:29) … Killer Frost remains their "secret weapon".
TVLINE | Finally, what can you say about this season's finale (broadcast on May 14th)? How would you compare it to the precedents?
Oh, man. It seems that every year they find a way to outdo themselves. We're still filming the final, but it's going to be really epic. I think it's going to be devastating in some ways, and it has a twist on the typical end of Flash, which I'm looking forward to seeing.
