Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted residents of Diwali shortly before 7 am today. Yesterday evening, the Prime Minister had an interesting exchange with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Twitter. Mr. Netanyahu posted a tweet in Hindi to wish his "dear friend" Prime Minister Modi on Diwali, to which the Indian Prime Minister replied in Hebrew.

"In the name of the Israeli people, I wish my dear friend @narendramodi and the happy Indian people Diwali, May this festival of bright lights bring you happiness and prosperity." Reply to this tweet by indicating the name of the city where you celebrate! "Mr. Netanyahu wrote in Hindi and English.

Israeli Prime Minister Modi replied in Hebrew and English to the Israeli Prime Minister: "Bibi, my friend, thank you very much for the wishes of Diwali, and every year I visit our border regions and surprise our troops. The Prime Minister arrived in Dehradun this morning and is expected to travel to Kedarnath, where he is likely to pray and examine the reconstruction work at Kedarpuri. After becoming Prime Minister in 2014, Prime Minister Modi had spent his Diwali in Siachen with jawans.

In 2015, he visited the Punjab border in Diwali. His visit coincided with 50 years of the war between India and Pakistan of 1965.

The following year, Prime Minister Modi was in Himachal Pradesh, where he spent time with the staff of the Indo-Tibetan border police in an outpost. Fourth Diwali as Prime Minister with soldiers at Gurez in Jammu and Kashmir last year.
