Priyanka Chopra: I want to highlight the things that push the boundaries

She had her hands full in the last six months – with a wedding on the spot, walking around the world and giving to all major objectives. She also appears in the latest single, Sucker, from her husband's band, Jonas Brothers, who has been on the Internet this weekend. The last Hollywood show of Priyanka Chopra was accompanied by Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth and Adam DeVine. In a Mumbai phone conversation, she talked about her latest film Is Is It Romantic, women in movies and ignorant trolls.

Excerpts from an interview:

What made you say yes to N? Is not it romantic?

It was a really fun script. I just could not lower it. I am a great lover of romantic comedies, but I am also that smart and modern girl of today. So, even though I know there are clichés, I love the fact that It's Not Fractal does not end up making fun and digging all those stereotypes and tropes. At the same time, it's a romantic comedy, which, in my opinion, is a smart thing to do. I was between the first and second Quantico shooting season, and they were shooting exactly that amount of time. I loved the idea that Rebel (Wilson) was the project producer. After being a successful actor for 15 to 20 years, she now produces her own lead role. I wanted to defend her for her.

You play Isabella in the movie "ambbadador of yoga" .

There is no ambbadador of yoga, which is still a fool. -cheek takes satiric on the set. I am this super rich kid, who has everything she wants. As a concept, I loved the idea that she, Isabella, is an Indian woman and set the standard of beauty in the film, which is new to Hollywood and American entertainment. The film is modern and progressive on many levels. He speaks of self-love – which is the dominant theme and narrative in the film. This is an important lesson, not only for women, but for everyone.

Do you think this "progressive" and "modern" approach will also translate into your home? In India, we always have a Veronica-gets-Archie theme and a majority of our heroines still conform to traditional standards of beauty.

I think that every culture and every society is different. It is unfair to make a comparison with the current situation of American films and television and that of Indian cinema and television. India is progressive with the types of films we perform. Look at how many female lead films have been so successful commercially at the box office. So many actresses and women represent themselves in the films we shoot in India. I think India is already on a very gradual curve as far as female representations are concerned. I think we need to target characters who are early and should become the new standard.

Now that you are splitting your time between the United States and India, what do you miss most about Bollywood?

I want to say that I miss singing and dancing, but as you can see, I dance and I sing here too. In my opinion, entertainment is entertainment everywhere. The medium is the same everywhere in the world, it's just a different working system in place. It's as if everyone was still in Hollywood right now and that I really miss being able to be late, like here. I really miss it.

There seems to be an interesting selection of films picked up by your production company, Purple Pebble Pictures. There seems to be a surge in regional cinema, with Firebrand and Paani (Marathi), Bhogha Khirikee (Assamese) and Pahuna (Nepalese).

I am very instinctive, that's why sometimes I'm fine or I'm wrong. I choose movies that I would like to watch. I know these movies will start a conversation. Ventilator (2016) did it and even Firebrand is aiming for the same thing. I want to create these stories and give an opportunity to these directors-directors and other talents of regional cinema, who probably do not get the enlargement of their ideas and what they create, because nobody encourages them. I want to point out the factors that break the boundaries, but I think that too few people do it in the entertainment field, which I think should change.

Your Instagram account has about 36.4 million followers and it serves as a direct link to you and your life for your fans. But you are also waiting. Does it bother you?

I never talked about it – the trolls – because they are trolls. I think the media gives them a lot more importance. I do not know when it happened that the opinions of others became worthy of interest. I do not find them important.
