Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt make a box office dream come true. Before Gully Boy they appeared in films as distinct as Padmaavat, Simmba, Raazi and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya and all that was clicked with the cinegoers. Now, Gully Boy will be part of this list.
The film entered the 100 crores club and the results were good for a story that unfolded in a world that would not otherwise have been exposed to Bollywood fans. There are not many movies that have music as the main genre like street rap. In this respect, the film did well to mark a century.
That said, it took eight days for the film to reach that goal, while ideally it should have occurred in six or seven days at most. With the kind of promotional and marketing efforts, it exceeded the expectations of the opening day. However, despite word of mouth criticism, the numbers were not as powerful as many would have imagined.
The film is doing well in high-end multiplexes of big cities, Mumbai contributing a lot because of the local flavor. Beyond, although the company is unbalanced and in line with expectations, the very idea of mounting this film is a risk in itself.
It would be interesting to see where the film lands now because Total Dhamaal came out and occupies a significant number of screens. Also, the multi-starrer is a movie for the mbades.
That said, it remains no less than 2019 has been a good year up to now with different kinds of films that are doing well and that Gully Boy has been added to the list. [19659003] Meanwhile, Uri – The surgical strike has now reached 230.50 crores of marks and this is an incredible figure considering that the opening day had almost pbaded the bar of 8 crores. In the process, he also surpbaded the lives of miniatures like Kick and of Chennai Express as well.
Now in the queue is Simmba, . currently stands at Rs 240.50 crore. This film by Aditya Dhar, Vicky Kaushal and Ronnie Screwvala should allow him to do it here next weekend.
From there, his remarkable journey to the Rs 250 crore club will begin and one waits to see if this actually turns out to be a landmark for Uri, which is clearly the largest a surprise story from this side of the millennium.
