Honey Singh, rapper, was hired by the Punjab police after the head of the state women's commission had lodged a complaint for the lyrics of her latest song.

Chief Superintendent of Mohali Police, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, said that a case had been filed. against Honey Singh under Articles 294 (obscene acts) and 509 of the ICC (words, gestures or acts aimed at insulting the modesty of a woman), under the Information Technology Act and Article 6 of the law on the prohibition of indefinite representation of women.

Punjab Women's Commission Chair Manisha Gulati wrote to the DGP to voice the words of Honey Singh's song "Makhna".

In his letter, Gulati requested the ban of the song saying that the song was "indecent" and forced to have a "negative effect" on the company.

She had asked the police to file a criminal case against the Bollywood singer and requested a status report by July 12 at the latest.

Honey Singh is not new in the controversies. In 2013, he was criticized for the song "Main hoon balatkari".
