a moment in Milan Talkies where electricity is cut off in the middle of Mughal-e-Azam. The film is broadcast in an Allahabad theater – we are eight years old from Prayagaraj – called Milan Talkies and the public does not like to miss the electric showdown between Akbar and his love prince.
The director-in-chief of Ali Fazal jumps in brilliantly. Backlit by the screens of mobile phones, he imitates both Dilip Kumar and Prithviraj Kapoor and the audience applauds – both in the real theater and in the imitations of Milan Talkies.

The film Tigmanshu Dhulia is a collection of such moments – an exploration of our love of cinema and a story of love well told. The story of Ali Fazal and Shraddha Srinath has his guardian angels: a poster of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol here, a song by Shammi Kapoor. Ali Fazal turns in Allahabad 's alleys his dream project with money borrowed from his mother and often supplemented by helping weak students to cheat.
This is how he meets Shraddha, a BA failure who needs to be graduated so that his father, Ashutosh Rana, can marry him with the educated boy of his choice. Love flourishes, but it's Uttar Pradesh, made up of anti-Romeo squads and castes carved in stone, here represented by a Sikandar Kher in front of Pierre. We see it very early in the film, castrating a boy who has fallen in love with a girl from another caste.
For Annu's Ali Fazal, Mumbai is the city of his dreams – far from the patriarchal bastion of Allahabad, where dreams manifest themselves. to come true. And Milan Talkies on one screen represents Bollywood in the film – romantic Annu and Maithili under the flickering lights, a kiss in front of posters and the projectionist Sanjay Mishra is their personal cupid.
Annu finally arrives in Mumbai but after the carnage the woman that he loves. The tenuous relationship between him and Maithili is filmed again. Dhulia is in great shape – he plays the role of Annu's father in the film in addition to writing and directing the film. As a child-man whose Bollywood dreams have not come to fruition, he is a delight. However, it is his way of capturing the essence of the small Indian town, and in particular of Allahabad – he is from the city itself, that he really wins. From language to attitude, he gets noticed by the city.
He is very well supported by the distribution – Ali Fazal, Shraddha, Ashutosh and Sanjay are particularly delightful. There are however some obstacles on the road: the length of the film and a music quite unforgettable.
