Rey Mysterio has been active in the professional wrestling industry for almost 30 years. He started at the age of 14. After his stint at WCW, which ended in 2002, Mysterio signed with WWE that summer. "The Master Of The 619" stayed at WWE for 13 years.
During his lifetime with the company, Mysterio won two world heavyweight titles, a WWE title, three cruiser titles, two intercontinental championship titles, four titles from a different partner) and a Royal Rumble victory in 2006.
However, in February 2015, Mysterio left the company after the end of its contract with the promotion. He spent the next few years working on the freelance circuit before returning to WWE last month. Addressing Lilian Garcia, the former WWE presenter, in his podcast titled "Chasing Glory," Mysterio explained his decision to leave the WWE in 2015.
It turned out that Mysterio simply wanted to spend more time with his family and was tired of missing events with his children:
"The opportunity was definitely on the table, and from the moment I left, I did not detailed explanations to the media or to those who doubted or wondered why I left. It was between WWE and myself; it was a part-time farewell. I had to take a break.
"I needed to rub shoulders with my family to learn many things that had escaped me over the years, being on the road, traveling and devoting much of my time to the sport that I've been doing. Somehow pushed my family apart; Do not get me wrong, my wife always supported what I do as well as my kids, but when my kids were young, they did not understand why dad had to leave every week, "Mysterio said.
"They do not understand why daddy is not there for their birthdays or their special events at school. They just know that Dad is working and is on the road. Now that they are older, they understand that.
"They understand what I do and understand the impact I have on the lives of others, so that's pretty much my answer as to why I walked away from my contract. with WWE.
