British actor Richard Keep spoke about Bollywood with his first film "Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi", which performed exceptionally well at the box office. The actor was seen playing the role of General Hugh Rose. During the 1857 mutiny, Rose commissioned Jhansi in central India in 1858.

The Indian public was very impressed by your appearance as General Hugh Rose in "Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi". How was your overall experience working in a Bollywood production?
Greetings from London. I am really grateful to see the positive reaction of the Indian public regarding the character. General Hugh Rose was a man in conflict while he was in India. Yes, he had been ordered to carry out a mission, but I think he felt very comfortable in India and in front of all the wonders that she had to offer. Let's not forget that he was holding the enigmatic Rani visionary with great esteem, that he should in no way be underestimated and that he considered her as the greatest threat to the East India Company.

I only have good memories of this adventure! I am very grateful to be part of a historic Bollywood biopic of this magnitude and of such importance to the Indian people. Five trips in 18 months to various locations in India after having made many new friends throughout the trip. I can only be grateful.

The portrayal of British characters in Indian stories is often considered caricatural. You have, however, presented a real threat as a dangerous company officer seeking to capture the Queen. What research and preparation is needed for the role?
I think it was clear from the outset that this would not be the case for the character of Sir Hugh Rose, who was actually a clever tactician in combat and a formidable commander-in-chief, who did not have a great deal to do. had never lost a war before the battle of Jhansi.

With all that was at stake historically, it was very exciting to explore as an actor, to create a nuanced and multi-faceted individual. 19659008] Much research has been devoted to the preparation of the character, both from an intellectual and a physical point of view. Did you know that Hugh Rose never had children and that he was not married? He was clearly obsessed with his country's dedication to his ambition.
In reality and as history describes it, Rani Lakshmibai found himself under the skin of General Hugh Rose and was just as crazy, if not more cunning than he. What revealed to me, as the plot of the movie thickened, was the internal and external battle that this man had been facing. From this was born admiration for mutual respect, and perhaps the first layers of vulnerability in the power of this character. With all that was at stake historically, it was very exciting to explore as an actor, to create a multi-faceted nuanced character.

Kangna Ranaut plays the role of Manikarnika in the film

Then there was the training with The director Nick Powell and his team in Hyderabad, over the course of several weeks, explained to us in detail what was necessary for the action scenes, as you see in the movie. and gravitas required.

Would you like to continue your badociation with the Indian film industry and return for other future projects?
Absolutely! Hopefully I will not have the type casting. How about an action thriller or a comedy? Black film is one of my favorite genres. Food for thought!

Tell us about your role in "Maleficent 2"?
Very happy to be aboard "Maleficent – The Sequel". We started filming for the last time in the summer of 2018 and we still have a lot to do this year before its imminent release. For the rest, you will have to wait for the exit. Alas, discretion is the key.
