And now that the current phase 3 of the MCU ends with Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo think it's time for Downey Jr to get his due.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Joe said that he would like to see Downey Jr be nominated for the Best Actor Oscar at the 2020 Academy Awards for playing the role of Iron Man since 2008.
" His cumulative body of work of these films is staggering. If you look at the work on the last four films (Marvel) he has done, it's phenomenal. He may deserve an Oscar more than anyone in the last 40 years because of the way he has motivated the heart-wrenching popular culture. He has the world in tears now, "said Joe.
Downey Jr. was also nominated in the past, but he still did not win the golden statue. He was nominated in 1992 to play Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin and again in 2009 for his comic role in Tropic Thunder .
