Robert Pattinson chosen as new Batman: report

Robert Pattinson was selected as the new Batman, beating several other actors, including Nicholas Hoult, to play the Caped Crusader, reports Variety.

The 33-year-old "Twilight" drummer is ready to play the role of superhero in an independent film called "The Batman", under the direction of Matt Reeves, who was at the origin of last two films from "Planet of the Apes", announced the entertainment magazine.

Filming should begin in the next few months. with an expected release date for June 2021.

A spokeswoman for Warner Bros. did not confirm the information to AFP, saying only: "I can confirm that we are in negotiations". The Pattinson agent did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Pattinson, who became famous as teenage vampire Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" saga, has avoided the limelight in recent years, pbading from an idol to a teenager to an independent darling.

He recently performed in French director Claire Denis' fictional film "High Life", which earned him praise.

He also plays in "The Lighthouse," a fantastic fantasy horror film that was also well received at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

As a Batman, Pattinson will replace Ben Affleck, who retired from the role after playing Bruce Wayne in "Batman v. Superman: The Dawn of Justice" and in "Justice League" in 2017 [19659009] © AFP 2019
