Kylian Mbappe, the star of the FIFA World Cup, has joined regulars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the list of finalists for the prize for the best male player of FIFA, announced Tuesday the World Executive Committee.

Ronaldo, who has won the trophy in the past two years, helped Real Madrid win a third consecutive crown of the Champions League before securing a transfer from Juventus.

Argentine striker Messi scored 34 goals in Barcelona's third win in La Liga over the past four seasons.

Mbappe, 19, followed a national hat-trick with Paris St Germain with a series of impressive performances in the World Cup campaign of France.

He became only the second teenager after Pele scored in a World Cup final while France spent Croatia 4-2 to win the first prize of the sport for the second time, 20 years after their first triumph.

Mbappe was joined by his compatriot Antoine Griezmann and Raphael Varane on the list of 10 players.

French coach Didier Deschamps and the former boss of Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, are leading the nominees for the male coach of the year award.

England coach Gareth Southgate was also named to the list of candidates after leading the national team to a first semifinal of the World Cup in 28 years.

Four women and six men are on the list of 10 candidates for the Female Coach of the Year award.

The nominations include Asako Takakura, who guided Japan to the title of the Women's Asian Cup, and Reynald Pedros, whose Olympique Lyonnais won a third consecutive Champions League and the title of champion of France.

The back of England's Lucy Bronze, who won the European crown in her first season in Lyon, was nominated for the women's title of the year.

The 26-year-old is one of six Lyon players competing with Ada Hegerberg, Saki Kumagai, Dzsenifer Marozsan and French duo Amandine Henry and Wendie Renard.

The three finalists for each award will be unveiled at a later date, with the winners to be announced at a ceremony in London on September 24th.
