According to media reports, the next Ford EcoSport could be powered by a small-capacity petrol engine, compliant with BS-VI, manufactured by Mahindra. The same engine will probably be offered on the compact SUV based at Ssangyong Tivoli (code name: S201).
Earlier this year, Mahindra and Ford signed a Powertrain Sharing Agreement. In this context, Mahindra would develop a gasoline engine complying with BS-VI and low-capacity standards.
Currently, the Ford EcoSport comes with 3 engine options: a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder gasoline unit producing 121 BHP at 6,500. Engine speed and 150 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, gasoline engine 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine developing 123 BHP at 6,000 rpm and 170 Nm at 1,500-4,500 rpm and 1.5-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine developing 99 BHP at 3,750 rpm and 205 Nm of torque at 1,750 at 3,250 rpm.
