RVD On Vince McMahon begins to protect himself from being hit by a chair

Rob Van Dam is a very interesting character. He can still fly through the ring at age 48, but as a semi-retired professional wrestler who was once a great WWE superstar, he can pick his dates. He is practically the same man as when he was fighting.

While talking to TV Insider, RVD remembers a conversation he had with Vince McMahon during his first WWE signing. This discussion was about chair blows on the skull, which is a huge no-no today in the WWE. All Vince McMahon wanted Rob Van Dam to do is lift his hands in the air to protect himself. The Whole F'n Show did not think it was necessary.

"I never understood that I could cause long-term damage. For me, one of the aspects of professional wrestling that I enjoy is showing how difficult I am. It's an outlet for that. I would be hit on the head with a chair and I knew it would hit my senses a little. It was part of the job for me. I just thought that I was really difficult because I could stand it. Now, I'm very lucky that at this stage of my life, I do not have the CTE that football players have endured … Vince McMahon told me when I came to the WWE to raise my hands to protect myself of the head. I was arguing with him because I was stupid because I thought I was tough.

"He became my father," I am your father and he tells you to lift your hands in the air. He was really serious. Now, I'm not going to encourage chafing on the head, but most of my concussions are probably due to the landing and the hitting of the back of the head. So, I will also be careful. There has been one or two times the same fate since the shooting of the film. Fortunately, I did not suffer a concussion.

Rob Van Dam says he has not suffered a concussion, but the WWE may not have checked as it does today. Mark Henry recently stated that he was giving his brain to science for concussion research. It is therefore a concern for all those who have succeeded in the ring. At least all those direct chair moves did not seem to affect RVD's ability to play in the ring at that time. Vince McMahon, apparently, still did not want this to happen.
