Despite protests, Sarkar officials laugh to the bank. The movie is fast approaching the Rs 100 crore brand. The film opened on November 6 with mixed reviews.

The film critic of the Indian Express, S Subhakeerthana, said in his review: "Sarkar belongs to Vijay, but not to AR Murugadoss. "Thalapathy" talking about farmers' suicides, Jallikattu, Tuticorin's protests, the fishermen's issue, "marketing and branding" and how he can save Tamil Nadu with the support of young people. Sarkar and Vijay also play the leading roles of Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Radha Ravi and Yogi Babu. The music of AR Rahman is already a hit with the public.
