According to the reading list, Burns, best known for his writing Bourne Ultimatum was chained by the studio to rewrite the screenplay of Daniel Craig-starrer's film.
Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have already written a version of the script, but it is said that the studio is not satisfied with their story.
The film was previously to be directed by Danny Boyle and released on November 8, 2019.
After Boyle abandoned the project due to "creative differences", the release date of the film was postponed until February 14. 2020.
The film, which has no title yet, will mark the fifth and perhaps the latest release of Daniel Craig in the role of the famous British spy.
The actor Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw will also resume their role in the new film. The French star Lea Seydoux, who played the psychologist Madeleine Swann in Specter Sam Mendes, also returns.
