"A fantastic effort," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, after actor Shah Rukh Khan released a rap video urging fans to exercise their democratic right in the Lok Sabha elections, in response to his call to celebrities to educate voters to vote.

In the 1.06-minute video titled "Karo Matdan: It's Time to Vote," Shah Rukh is seen – and heard – telling people that their vote is the cornerstone of democracy.

The video comes almost a month after Modi tagged a number of influential people on Twitter.

"A fantastic effort, @iamsrk I am sure that the Indian people, especially the voters who are voting for the first time, will take your call into account and go out a lot to vote," said the Prime Minister.

Sharing the video on Twitter, the actor explained that he wanted to do something creative, where the delay.

"Prime Minister sahib @narendramodi did not create creativity, he asked for creativity.Hand thoda at the end of the video gane banane me … aap mat hona Vote karne mein !!! "… Aapka matdan loktantra ki jaan," he says in the video.

"Lagi ungli pe syaahi / dekho badla nazaara / yé desh hai hamara / ye farz hai hamara", he says, displaying his inked finger in the video.

"Ab na karni complaint, na koi bhi bahana / Low badhna hai aaa aur desh ko badhana," he says in the rap video.

In March, Modi tweeted to actors such as Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh, Karan Johar, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar to help encourage youth votes.
