Conor Sheary and Matt Hunwick were traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Buffalo Sabers for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft on Wednesday.

Sheary, a 26-year-old forward, has collected 30 points (18 goals, 12 badists) in 79 regular season games this season and two badists in 12 Stanley Cup playoff games. It remains two seasons on a three-year contract of $ 9 million (average annual value of $ 3 million) and can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2020.

"Conor has turned out to be a reliable forward with an ability to get through big matches, which the playoff experience speaks for itself," said Sabers' general manager, Jason Botterill. "Conor and Matt will bring a winning pedigree to our team, and we expect them to complement our group very well."

Signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on July 1, 2015, Sheary has accumulated 93 points (48 goals, 45 badists) in 184 regular season games and 19 points (six goals, 13 badists) in 57 playoff games. He won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017.

Hunwick, a 33-year-old defenseman, had 10 points (four goals and six badists) in 42 games with the Penguins after signing a three-year contract ($ 2.25 million average value) with Pittsburgh on July 1 2017. He has 117 points (25 goals, 92 badists) in 521 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, the Colorado Avalanche, the New York Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Penguins.
