Sonali Bendre is an image of strength and determination in her fight against cancer for millions of people over the past year. The actor has been diagnosed with high grade cancer. Instead of hiding it, she chose to share it with the world and, in return, gained support from all sides. Now that the actor is back in India, she says that being a cancer survivor is not a badge that she wants to wear and with which to move.

Speaking at a FICCI event in Jaipur, the actress is open on her fight against the disease. One of the things she did not talk about much is cancer survivor. During the event, parallels were drawn between his fight and that of actress Manisha Koirala. Sonali said that while Manisha played the role of Nargis Dutt (deceased pancreatic cancer) in Sanju when she was not suffering from cancer, it was different for her. She stated that she was not willing to badume roles related to cancer. "Manisha made a comeback when she was cancer free. I am not yet. My background is a little different. I do not think I would ever want to play the role of a cancer survivor and relive all those painful moments. There is so much for me to be just a cancer survivor. This is not a badge that I want to wear and move. The only reason I'm talking about it is that no one talks about it. I am neither a doctor nor a scientist. But if I talk with the public, it's for people to talk about it, so I think it's my job to talk about it instead of pitying on oneself She said in Times of India.

Speaking of seeing her body change over the course of her treatment, she revealed how losing her hair and coping with her body was scary. "I've always had poker straight hair. I hope these little twists will allow me to see how to last in my hair. And in this second part of my life, I want slightly wavy hair so that my brushing is a little better.

Sonali also recounted how her husband, Goldie Behl, revealed the news of her illness to their son Ranveer. "Talking to him about my cancer was both instinctive and selfish. Goldie and I had the feeling that he was such an important member of the family and that if something as big happened, he had to be part of it. It was by instinct. The second thing was a very selfish motive. I did not know where I was heading. No matter how much time I had left, I wanted it with me. It was as simple as that. "
