Stranger Things has always had a problem with women. Eleven had a good time, but all too often, Joyce, Nancy and Max are treated as secondary characters by the story, there are only worried mothers or amorous interests. Season three is shaking things up a bit, but we could still focus more on women next season beyond the constraints of their relationships with men, or women being the stars of their own stories.

The third season avoids season two love triangles in favor of platonic friendships (Robin and Steve) or ladies as friends rather than as romantic rivals (Max and eleven). Robin is a triumph for the female characters in the series, brave, fierce, and not forced into the box of love. In the same way, the friendship of Max and Eleven allows them to engage in a new interesting direction, beyond their boyfriend. Too often, the women of Stranger Things tend to be defined by the men around them. It is therefore not enough to change things and to make sure that women are defined according to their merit or their relationship with other women. An air that should not happen so late in a series.
Erica is also excellent. The fans loved Lucas's little sister last season. So it makes sense that she plays a bigger role in the third season. Priah Ferguson is excellent, and she brought a very good comic timing to the role. It was good to see her join the Scoops Ahoy team.
Nancy was also an excellent reporter instead of being stuck in a C plot, but when will she have more development? What is his future beyond Jonathan? Can she break up with Jonathan because he is not very interesting? In the same way, Joyce has a lot to do, but she is also Hopper's main interest as a companion / lover. Joyce and Nancy both have the potential to be truly incredible and independent characters, and I would love to have the chance to stand beyond Hopper and Jonathan and be their own women; with Hopper "dead" and Jonathan leaving town, we may have this result.
Still, this season seems very masculine (more than usual). Eleven still has her usual moments, but she does not leave as much impact this season as in previous years. Besides, where was his sister? Have they just abandoned this plot? At the end of the season, Eleven is a damsel in distress who needs help, the opposite of how she ended the two previous seasons. His powers will obviously come back, that is certain, but the power of the strongest female character in the show has no meaning.
In some ways, the show did best by female characters with Robin's introduction. , a bigger role for Erica and Max and Eleven being the best friends in the world, but there is still a lot to do. The ladies of the series deserve more than just being partners in more interesting stories when they lead them.
I would love much more than Joyce to take things in hand with Hopper as a partner (and maybe Hopper). to calm down a little). Nancy should be reconciled with Steve and become friends again, and this time be friends with Robin. Eleven is expected to grow up as a person with Max, with his sister, and then Mike will eventually be able to go out with her and calm down. Erica should continue to be part of the team, and I would love to see her join Lucas.
There are simple ways to solve the problem of Stranger Things . It remains to be seen if they will follow.
