NEW DELHI: The Electoral Commission on Monday rejected accusations of hacking on the part of EVM during an event in London and examined what legal actions can and should be brought in this case.

An Indian cyber-expert, seeking political asylum in the United States, claimed that the 2014 general election had been "manipulated" by the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs), which he says , can be hacked.

Speaking at a press conference in London via Skype, the man, identified as Syed Shuja, said he fled India in 2014 because he felt threatened in the country after the murder of some members of his team.

Responding to the event, the Electoral Commission said in a statement: "The EC is wary of becoming a stakeholder in this motivated slugfest." EC is firmly convinced by the empirical evidence regarding the foolproof nature of the EVMs of the deployed ECIs during the elections in India. "

"It should be recalled that these modules are manufactured in BEL / ECIL under very strict monitoring and safety conditions and that rigorous standard operating procedures have been observed at all stages under the supervision of a committee. From prominent technical experts constituted as early as 2010, "The polling body added.

Meanwhile, the BJP targeted Congress to be part of the "Motivated Campaign".

"The Congress has many freelancers who sometimes go as far as Pakistan to ask for help to dismiss Modi Ji.They are organizing a horror show revealing their possible defeat in the next elections", said the Minister of the Union, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

"Kapil Sibal did not go by accident, he was sent by Congress, by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi," he added, adding that the organizers of the event had been paid to tarnish the country's democratic process.

The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, said today that the opposition would resume with the electoral commission the claims of the cyber expert that EVD could be hacked.
