Tara Sutaria: I do not let myself be influenced because I have seen the world of showbiz up close | Hindi movie news

Daughter of Mumbai, Tara Sutaria is confident and talented. At 23, she has years of experience as an artist. She worked in theater plays, anchored television shows and participated in two series as a child. She is also a skilled dancer and singer, who has performed in competitions and operas, and who is familiar with dance forms such as clbadical ballet and Latin America. In short, she was more than prepared to take the plunge when a single appointment with Karan Johar earned her the role of the year 2 student (SOTY 2). The actress takes us through her journey so far and what awaits us:

Unlike many newcomers who do not have a film background and face years of struggle before getting a break in the industry, you seem to have had a relatively easier entry into the industry. the showbiz. Do you agree?
Yes, it was like a dream, not really a fight. Yes, things tend to be harder for people who are not from this business, but I was lucky. In addition, do not divide the sector between foreigners and insiders. If you look at the people who have been launched so far, there are more "outsiders" who come out well than "insiders". Karan (Johar) did not know me and never saw me play, but he knew me. Fortunately, the only meeting I had with him in his old office was enough to get things moving. He was warm and sweet. I remember that I even sang for him. He told me to finish my studies and come back to test the student of year 2, which was being written. Everything fell into place after that. For the test, I shot two scenes with Punit Malhotra and I got the role.

At Karan Johar's Chat-show, you introduced yourself as someone with a lot of grace and composure. Was it part of your preparation or does it come naturally?

I have always been very mature. It's been playing on stage since a very young age. As a singer and dancer, you face situations that other children do not know, which makes you much more mature and prepares you for a lot of things. My mother is a grooming and etiquette professional, which is evident in the way my twin sister Pia and I were raised.

You wanted to be a singer at some point in your life. How did cinema take over?
I was four when I wanted to become a singer. The good part of our household was that there was a lot of interest in the arts; my family is deeply in it. So after school, we still had extracurricular activities aligned. This opened up a whole new world, which exists outside the curriculum, which was also emphasized in the sophomore. This experience of growing up helped me a lot when shooting this movie. In addition, I was doing music drama in my teens. When I was in college, I started getting bids for playing in movies. At that time, I did not know what I wanted to do. Before finishing my studies, I met Karan and things have been great since. Today, I feel nervous and excited in equal measure. We are all delighted to share what we have been working on for a year.

In his interview, Tiger tells us that there is a world in SOTY 2, which is very different from the gloss and glamor badociated with the franchise. What do you think?
I agree with Tiger. When we were talking about our roles before the movie was released, it was clearly Betty and Veronica (from Archie Comics). The characters we play, Ananya, have not been sculpted like the girls you see in the lightest movies. They are young and strong women. They have a graph and every time you think you can predict their next move, they will surprise you. My character is independent, voluntary and does what she thinks she should do. She knows exactly what she wants. Like most of us, she makes mistakes, learns and redeems herself.

Even before the release of your first movie, you have already shot two other movies. With about 19 newcomers ready to enter the industry this year, do you think you have an advantage over them?
I realize that everyone does not have what I have. I remember thinking that I would release a great movie this year. But before I knew it, I had finished my second film, Marjavan. In a few weeks, we will start working on the remake of the RX 100. So this is a busy and wonderful time of my career. To answer your question, all the girls that have been launched lately are performing a type of work so different that there is no room for comparison. I do not think we are in a contest here. We will all experiment with genres and find our way. If you do what you want and the way you want it, the rest does not matter. There is room for all of us.

Speaking of having an advantage, do you think that Ananya has an advantage over you since she is a child of the industry?
I do not really know if anyone can have an advantage just because it's from the industry because it all boils down to the talent and motivation you need to get what you want. The way you pursue your dream depends on each individual. I do not know why people are constantly comparing artists.

Ananya and you became friends during the filming. Have you ever fought?
It's funny to think that people expect actresses to fight for a movie. We get along very well and have a great relationship. I have the chance to share my first film with Ananya and Tiger. It's unfortunate that people have trouble understanding that two new actresses have not clashed. In the West, women empower themselves. Ananya and I are Scorpians, but we are different from each other, which helped us a lot to share. We got along well from the start. She is the best first co-star for me. There was so much in common between us – our first film, our first song, our first magazine shoot – we did everything together.

Do you consider yourself an ambitious and competitive player?
(Smiles) I do not let myself be influenced by anything because I see the world of showbiz up close and it's a different space. Through my exposure to the theater and the arts, I have evolved as a person. I can manage people and situations well. Yes, I am ambitious, but not competitive, and people should not put the two together. Honestly, I do not know what really is competitive. I was raised with a twin sister. We only learned to love a woman and to help each other in all situations. There is probably room for competition, but it should be healthy.

Earlier in the interview, you mentioned that you finished Marjavan. The chemistry you share with your neighbor, Sidharth Malhotra, makes you talk about you …
Marjavan is a violent and moving story. It is diametrically different from SOTY 2. The project has also worked well. I was fortunate to have found a co-star like Sidharth. I feel so close to this team and it is nice to work with her. Initially, Sidharth and I did not shoot a lot together; we have become good friends as we go. We shared a lot of notes. He was a former student and I was current (in reference to SOTY). He is also my neighbor, so we always have a lot to talk about.

Does the rumors of an affair with Sidharth hinder your friendship with him?
No, it never becomes embarrbading and rumors have never done it. He is a mature guy and we both know and understand that speculation and conjecture are part of this business. You can not run away. The best way to solve this problem is to get used to it, which we are both.

What about the relationships you have had in the past?
I can only say yes, I have already been in love. It's a beautiful feeling of being in a relationship. I am old fashioned when it comes to love and relationships, and I like that. I completely believe in love and I am always looking for true love. With my experience, I can simply say that love makes the world go round. For the moment, I am not in a relationship. Suggestions in this space are welcome!
