With its seven wins in six categories, the 91st Academy Awards saw the highest number of Oscar winners at the 2019 ceremony, beating the previous record of six wins in five categories established in 2017.

#OscarsSoWhite? Spike Lee, director of BlacKkKlansman, also won his first Academy Award in Best Adapted Screenplay with Kevin Willmott for co-writing the film.
During the ceremony, two black actors won the Oscar for the support of the actor and the actress. Regina King wins Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Sharon Rivers in film If Beale Could Speak, and Mahershala Ali win Best Supporting Actress title for Peter Farrelly in Green Paper .

Discussing of his backstage win, Lee would have thanked April Reign, the creator of #OscarsSoWhite and former Academy president, Cheryl Boone Isaacs. He said: "They opened the academy so that it looks more like America, which is why three black women have won, if I'm counting," he said.
