"Oscar viewing models are evolving rapidly in our current multimedia world, and our show must also evolve to continue to promote motion pictures to a global audience," he wrote.
Bailey added that the four categories will be broadcast online in partnership with ABC and on the Oscar.com and Academy social networks, and that the winners' speeches will be aired later in the broadcast.
This comes after the approval of the plan of the governors of the Academy. In August, to present some of the 24 categories of awards during breaks.
Several people, including Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro, were strongly criticized for this initiative by the academy.
Toro, who received the prize for best film Best Director Award for Shape of Water in 2018: "Cinematography and editing are at the heart of our business." Shape of Water was nominated in both categories last year.
If you allow me, I would not like to suggest which categories to cut during the Oscars, but – Cinematography and editing are at the very heart of our profession. They are not inherited from a theatrical or literary tradition: it is the cinema itself.

Who are these changes for ?! Do they think that they will woo the viewers? Do they think that this will please some faithful viewers in some way? All that will do is reduce the time in the limelight for people who never do it otherwise, without any positive result.

The Oscars are pissed off to be elitist, but they are one of the only awards that shows that the winners are featured in the craft categories. This decision is reprehensible. Shame at the Academy. Shame on ABC. If you do not like the Oscars for more than 3 hours, you do not like the Oscars. https://t.co/ZSNOTDhhSQ

Because cinematography and make-up are not important in film making … https: / /t.co/ OEPwxoG4PT

Even without a make-ready number or monologue taking time, they feel that they still have to eliminate them from live broadcast? Shameful.

I find this really stupid, I'm sure that they were cutting a little comedy where they would have easily had the time to award the prize for best editing and makeup honors.

I agree. Each role in the process of making a film deserves its time to shine during the awards ceremony. It's not just actors, but behind the scenes.

This Oscars of the year have been the subject of much controversy. Earlier, its decision to introduce a new category of "popular films" caused a major setback, following which the Academy decided to remove it. The Academy has also chosen to drop a guest for this year's awards ceremony after American comedian Kevin Hart left the series a few hours after being selected for refusing to apologize for his past homophobic remarks. who had surfaced on Twitter.
