The CM of Tamil Nadu leaves for Tiruvarur today

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami will depart by train Tuesday night for Tiruvarur to personally inspect the damage caused by Hurricane Gaja. He would also go to Nagapattinam district.

The central team tasked by the Center to badess the damage caused by the cyclone completed its visit to affected coastal districts on Monday and the panel closed its visit by holding a meeting with the Chief Minister at the Secretariat here Tuesday . Later, Mr. Palaniswami would leave for Tiruvarur by train. From there, he went to the areas affected by the road and dialogued with the population. Then he would go to Nagapattinam. The CM was not able to cover these two districts during his personal badessment of the devastation earlier.

Last week, Mr. Palaniswami had to abruptly cancel the visit to Pudukottai, due to heavy rains, as he was traveling to the areas affected by the cyclone in Pudukottai. However, he did an aerial survey of the destruction caused by the cyclone. Following his visit, the CM met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and informed him of the destruction caused by the hurricane and sought more RS. 15,000 crores for compensation and rehabilitation work. The CM commissioned ministers and senior officials to oversee relief and restoration work in the affected districts and even ordered the release of Rs. 1,000 crore to fund relief activities.
