The iconic RK Studios, which produced the many famous stars and films of Hindi cinema, were sold. Founded in 1948 in Chembur, Mumbai, and named after superstar Raj Kapoor, the RK studios were known for producing films that criticized society as a whole and addressed many social and clbad obstacles.
The RK studios were sold on May 4th. The new owner is Godrej Properties Ltd (GPL).
GPL plans to convert the 71-year-old building into a residential and commercial building.
After unsuccessful attempts to renovate the studio following a devastating fire. The Kapoor family had put it on the market on September 16, 2017.
GPL purchased the premises of RK Studios from Rs Rs 2.2 for an undisclosed amount and plans to convert it into an apartment complex Modern residential and luxury retail center.

The studio was built by Raj Kapoor from the profits of his blockbuster film Barsaat (1949). and the RK Films banner extended to RK Studios.
It was in the 1950s that the studios produced cult clbadics such as Awaara (1951), Boot Polish (1954), [1954]. Shree 420 (1955), Jaagte Raho (1956) and Mera Naam Joker (1970) among many others. The studios allowed the Kapoors to turn their films into a controlled and profitable environment.
At one point, Rishi Kapoor had stated that it was the largest film school that could be asked. The studio has also served as a venue for family celebrations and weddings for many years.
Incidentally, the sale of RK Studio comes just eight months after the death of Raj Kapoor's widow, Krishna, who died at the age of 87 on October 1, 2018.
The sacred ground also saw the completion of some of the films of its founder, Raj Kapoor, posthumously, as Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1989) and Henna (1991).
