Not only did the first Star Wars: Episode 9 reveal the title of the film, but there was another surprise in its sleeve.
After confirming the title Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker we heard the indisputable laugh of Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). According to Kathleen Kennedy, the return of this iconic villain has always been expected.
"It's been in the plan for a long time, we have not figured out how we could do it, but it's still true [been in the works]," she told Yahoo! Entertainment .
It remains to be seen how this return will occur, but we know at least a little more about why the film is called The Rise of Skywalker .
"The title seems I know it's provocative and I ask lots of questions, but I think when you see the movie, you'll see how it's intended and what it means" explained director JJ Abrams.
"But in the stream of titles, this film had a very strange responsibility. This was not to be the end of three films, but of nine films, and the idea of incorporating the stories that have preceded is strangely the story of the film. "
We also know that the film will not follow directly at the end of The Last Jedi although Abrams does not specify exactly how long the jump is temporal.
[1965 Star Wars: The Skywalker Uprising is distributed in British theaters on December 19th and American theaters on December 20th.
