Satya Ranjan Borah, a Bharatiya Janata Party official in the state, filed a judicial investigation report against the singer for allegedly hurting the feelings of the people while the state was celebrating the highest honor bestowed on him. Borah claimed that Garg also insulted singer Bhupen Hazarika. However, the police have not yet recovered any additional information on the vocal clip and also confirmed that there was no video evidence showing that Garg would have insulted the prestigious award.
The FIR stated that the singer had used unparliamentary language and defamed India's highest civil honor. In the audio clip, we hear Garg sing his new song, Politics Na Karibo Bandhu, before using an abusive term describing Bharat Ratna.
Incidentally, Zubeen Garg's campaign song was attributed to the BJP's victory in the 2016 Assembly elections in Assam. But the singer has severely criticized the draft law on citizenship (amendment). Garg is publicly opposed to the bill and has also offered to return his fees to the party for the campaign song he's written. Earlier, Garg had written to the Prime Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, asking him to return the votes he had obtained because of his song.
