This is why Captain Marvel does not work like a movie

The latest release of MCU Captain Marvel is finally released in theaters and is the last stage of anticipation before Avengers: The final phase is now officially launched. Captain Marvel has received polarizing reactions from critics around the world, but for me, the film was a mediocre attempt at something Marvel had excelled before. I'm all for women to be at the forefront of superhero movies, but the main criterion remains: "Is the film good enough?" And in this case, the answer is "No".

The simplest way to say it is, "This is not a black panther," as Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy described it. Black Panther was the first MCU movie to have an African-American superhero composed mainly of colorful actors. Not only did it eliminate the popular belief that films with blacks do not have a global audience, it has also led policymakers to believe that regardless of the race of the people, a good movie is a good film.

Captain Marvel had the opportunity to do the same for female superheroes, although this is the case of DC's Wonder Woman. It was time for Marvel to shine.

The reasons why Captain Marvel did not work as a film depended on many factors.

Who is Carol Danvers?

The film is largely filmed Carol spends her time trying to replenish her memories. She does not remember who she was during her stay on Earth and the information we receive about the second act of the film is also second hand data. There was a moment in the film where Carol even said that she did not know who she was but guessed what, any more than the audience.

In simple terms, Captain America is synonymous with justice and Tony Stark is the arrogant guy who smiles.

Who is Captain Marvel?

In a strange offer, the film does not present the heroic scene in which she is recognized as "Captain Marvel". She takes advantage of her moment of "hero" but it is too little, too late. Even though Kevin Feige said to be the most powerful avenger, you have a hard time believing it and it's even after you've established that she can fly.

The absence of a strong villain

The film establishes a villain at first, but that changes towards the end. Captain Marvel tries to explore the bow as the villain is the one on the other side of the fence but does not spend much time on the same thing.

Before Killmonger and Thanos, most of Marvel's films were struggling against the lack of a strong villain. and it's strange to see MCU struggling with the same problem in his 21st film.

Captain Marvel feels dated

The film is set in the 90s, but it seems that some places have been filmed. the 90s. The VFX is not tied with other Marvel films. The digital disentangling that works wonderfully with Jackson turns terribly badly with respect to Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson.

Even the humor, which is now an integral part of Marvel movies after the days of the Guardians, feels compelled. There are some relief scenes and these are only saved by the impeccable timing of Samuel L Jackson. It would have been quite good if they had not forced Captain Marvel to make a lining, but this half-cooked attempt is embarrbading.

Annette Bening has some good scenes as Mar-Vell / Dr. Lawson and Hala's Supreme Intelligence. You end up wanting to see more of Bening. Nick Fury's boyfriend with Carol and his scenes with Goose are the highlights of this movie. Ben Mendelsohn's Talos deserves special mention here.

Field Comfort

When field points are disclosed at the right time, the audience remains invested. When we are well aware of the configuration but the director always takes us by surprise, it gives us joy. In Captain Marvel, this feeling of surprise comes shortly after the big play where Carol is fighting on top of a train. But this technique of surprising the audience while advancing the plot disappears shortly thereafter. At the beginning of the third act, when the movie starts to go somewhere, the plot is very easily advanced. The device / masking mechanism leaves you the biggest "What just happened?"

Why the fate of Captain Marvel will not affect the fate of MCU

The timing of this film is very timely. Avengers: Endgame will be released in less than two months, the good and bad sides of Captain Marvel will all be forgiven and forgotten.

The film was widely promoted for being the first superhero movie directed by an MCU woman, so the "awake" audience will have a hard time being honest about it. We can only hope that the character of Captain Marvel will be bought by the brothers Russo in Endgame.
