Through the pages: the literary stages of Girish Karnad

Renowned playwright and actor Girish Karnad pbaded away on Monday
Award-winner Jnanpith, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan contributed immensely to the theater, influencing the mythological and contemporary genres of art.
Here is a list of some of his famous pieces.

1.Yayati | 1960
Girish Karnard writes his first play at the age of 23 years. It was written in 1960 and won the "Mysore State Award" in 1962. The book was about the character of "Mahabharata", King Yayati, an ancestor of the Pandavas and Kauravas, cursed by premature old age.

2.Tughlaq | 1964
Originally written in Kannada and then translated into English in 1977 by Karnad himself, 'Tuglaq & # 39; is his dramatic portrait of the Nehruvian period, which began with an ambitious idealism and resulted in disenchantment, just like the ruler of the fourteenth century. Karnad has established his effectiveness as a playwright in the country thanks to this piece.

3.Hayavadana | 1971
Karnad wins his first prize Sahitya Akademi for this book in 1971. Infusing the folk theater of "Yakshagana", this play is inspired by Thomas Mann's 1940 novel, "The Transposed Heads &" # 39 ;. Karnad described the unquenchable thirst for human desire, through the narrative of this Sanskrit text of the eleventh century – "Kathasaritsagara".

4. Nagamandala | 1988
According to the stories that Karnad heard from AK Ramanujan, Indian poet and literary scholar. Nagamandala consists of two stories whose heart is love, sacrifice, incorporating the nature of a "flame" into its narration. The book has also been transformed into a Kannada film, written by Karnad himself and directed by TS Nagabharana.

5. Agni Varsha – Fire and rain | 1998
Reciting part of the "Mahabharata", Karnad highlights the essence of love, hatred, loneliness and loneliness using personalities from everyday life. The book was turned into a film in 2002, directed by Arjun Sajnani and starring Girish Karnad, Nagarjuna and Amitabh Bachchan.
