The filmmaker Abhishek Varman Kalank was bombed at the box office this year. Despite a stunning star show, great songs and great promotions, the movie did not impress the audience. Now, actor Varun Dhawan, who directed the film with Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha, talked about the failure of his film. In his latest interview with the daily newspaper, the actor said that it was a major failure and that it made him think a lot.
Varun stated that the rejection of Kalank at the Box Office was a "collective failure". He added that the reception of the film by the public had affected him and that it was acceptable, because if it had not touched him so much, it would have meant that he had never liked his work. Varun was cited by Hindustan Times : " Kalank was not accepted by the public because it was a bad film and we all collectively failed . The movie let people down. Personally, failure was important. I wanted the failure to affect me because otherwise I do not like my work.
Kalank was created in the 1940s, at the time of the score, and was presented as the tragic love story. There was Alia and Varun among the lovers while Madhuri played the role of a courtesan. The film was produced by Karan Johar who dedicated it to his father, Yash Johar. In announcing the film, he revealed that Kalank had been conceptualized by his father several years ago and that he wanted to complete his father's dream by ending the story.
The film did not perform well at Screen and disappeared without leaving a trace. It was considered a real dud with only greatness and not soul.
