With Uri: the surgical strike, Vicky Kaushal started 2019 with a bang. The actor also had a very hectic year in 2018 and gave outstanding films like Raazi, Sanju, Manmarziyaan and Love Per Square Foot to Netflix. This year does not look much like Kaushal, whose latest film not only received rave reviews, but also set fire to the box office. Uri is only a few days away from the creation of 200 crores of rupee in India, while the global collections of the film are close to 300 crore.

Collections may have slowed down weekdays, but they play as well as films like Manikarnika and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, both released a few weeks after Kaushal's film. Uri made 2.84 crores of rupee on Monday, bringing the Indian collections to Rs 192.84 crores. According to a report from the Box Office Collection, Uri would have taken 2.63 rupees on Tuesday, bringing the collection to 195.47 crore. The gross India collection of the film is about 247 million rupees.

According to Bollywood Hungama, Uri earned 1.84 lakh Rs in Australia and 1.70 lakh Rs in New Zealand, respectively six and three screens. The report mentions that the film generated a gross amount of 35.47 billion rupees from the foreign box office, bringing the overall collection to 281.73 million rupees.

While Uri came out with the controversial film Anupam Kher, The Accidental Prime Minister, he left this last path behind in terms of collections. Uri also survived Simmba and continued his winning streak despite the exceptional successes of Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan at the box office. Then came the Manikarnika of Kangana Ranaut: the queen of Jhansi, who was well too, and Thackeray of Nawazuddin Siddiqui who did not find many takers.

The fact that the public chose Uri instead of its competitors despite the absence of A-lister shows once again that moviegoers will choose good content every day for a big distribution. Uri is based on the actual events of surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army on the LoC in 2016.

Directed by Aditya Dhar and performed on a budget of 45 Rs crore, Uri: The Surgical Strike is performed by Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal, Kirti Kulhari, Rajit Kapur, Swaroop Sampat and Rakesh Bedi.
