Vijay made a smooth transformation from catchy songs to work on camera. His 10th film as director, Kolaigaran, was released this Friday. In an exclusive interview with Firstpost Vijay Antony opens.
The promotions of Kolaigaran, where the team pays tribute to some of the best thrillers of Tamil cinema, have created an expectation around the film.
This was the idea of producer Pradeep and presenter and distributor G Dhananjayan, who presented the rich library of thrillers thriller iconic Tamil cinema. We hope that Kolaigaran, as thriller thriller, will live up to the legends of the genre.
Kolaigaran is your 10th film. Until now, you have avoided multi-scenes, but here you share the screen space with Arjun. Have you changed your mind?
I decided to do more movies depending on the scenario. The director of Kolaigaran, Andrew Lewis was my clbadmate at the university and later he became badistant to SJ Surya. He was instrumental in trying to put me in touch with a lot of directors when I became a hero. I agreed to do this movie, not because he was my friend, but his narration and his script were compelling.
You have a good sense of the script and the choice of your first films worked for you. How do you choose a scenario?
I look at the audience's point of view when the directors tell me the story. Take for example Naan, Salim or Pichaikkaran. T By the time I heard the story, I knew I could do it and it just turned out right. You see, I am a very limited actor. Do not compare me to legends of Tamil cinema like Kamal (Haasan) or Rajini (Rajinikanth) sir (laughs).
In your interviews, you always say that you are a limited actor. How did you experience such success?
I will say that I am a limited actor and that I am not as talented as others. But I'm catching up with my hard work and sincerity, which worked for me. Of course, the choice of scripts also helped.
Your films have negative titles such as Saithan, Yaman and Thimiru Pudichavan (arrogant man), who in this industry superstitious will choose as titles for their films. Why?
I found the so-called titles with negative waves that worked for me. Take my greatest success in Tamil and Telugu of Pichaikkaran (Beggar), which many people have advised me not to give as a film title, but this has continued to become a blockbuster ! Of course, my description must have some relevance with the story. Now, in Kolaigaran (the killer), I play a guy who is a murderer. In a way, the title justifies the story.
So, in in Kolaigaran, you play a negative role and Arjun is a cop looking for the murderer?
Let me tell you. way: we explore the other side of human nature, which can be dark. Nobody was born naughty in life. That's the way you interpret his story or his journey.
Have you abandoned the musical composition because you are no longer composing music, even for the films you make as a hero?
[19659024] Yes, I stopped composing music because I became a busy actor. Playing and marketing my films is a full-time job. As an actor, I had more success and so I decided to focus fully on that.
What are your next movies?
I do a multi-synagogue with Arun Vijay for director Naveen entitled Agni Siragugal. I This is a full-fledged action film shot in Europe and Goa, and none have been shot in Chennai yet. Then I do Thamilarasan, an action drama and Kaaki.
