The Super Deluxe trailer released today is nothing like what you have seen before. The two-minute trailer was cut in an ingenious way to convey only one point: live here now
The trailer opens on Vijay Sethupathi, dressed in drag, which immediately attracts our attention. He plays in the film a transgender woman named Shilpa, who is directed by filmmaker Thiagarajan Kumararaja, winner of a national award. Shilpa tells a story in a loop. It's the story of a man who is pursued by a tiger on a rugged mountain road. In his effort to escape the tiger, he ends up facing more danger. And whenever he encounters a new danger, Shilpa resets and tells the story from the beginning, and then advances the story. She tells the same story, each time, in different ways. Once, she is slow and steady in tone and narration. Then she says it quickly.
Shilpa's fable serves as a backdrop to a series of stories featuring different groups of people. Although all their stories seem to be different from each other, they have one thing in common: they all have profound problems.
When Thiagarajan made his impressive debut in 2011 with Aaranya Kaandam, who won two national awards, including the best. Director, he did not really break the mainstream of Kollywood. His next film with a stellar star cast will perhaps bring all the recognition his unique voice deserves.
Super Deluxe has been in production for a long time. The film was to be filmed by PC director Sreeram. However, he decided not to participate in the film after the first program, citing production delays. Director of photography PS Vinod (Aaranya Kandam and Vikram Vedha) shot the film with Nirav Shah later. It will appear on the screens on March 29th.
