Vivek Agnihotri states that the communication against The Tashkent Files is politically motivated and asks "Why am I being bullied?"

. Agnihotri said that Lal Bahadur Shastri's grandson is a congressman and claims "to have been forced to do so by the highest family". Contrary to the notice which required that the film be screened for the family before its release in theaters, Agnihotri said to have seen the film, "appreciated it and expressed its gratitude in person on April 7 in Delhi to PVR."

Shastri's family questioned the timing of the film's release, which was in contradiction with the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, starting on April 11.
