Vivek Oberoi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not a documentary. I am not here to present facts

Now that the elections in Lok Sabha are over and spread, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic will finally arrive in cinemas after the election commission banned its publication at the n-hour.

The EC has submitted a 20-page report to The Supreme Court has refrained from stalling the publication of the biopic on the grounds that it would produce a political environment in which an individual would have acquired a cult status and would be so glorified that Modi was going to tip the electoral balance

. , while the actual performance of Modi himself was sufficient to influence the public opinion.

Vivek Oberoi, who ran from the courts and offices of the European Commission to TV studios, is again on sale after almost a month. He talks about his years as a political student, criticism of his film by EC and the new season of Inside Edge in Amazon Prime.

Why do you think your film has not received so much support from the film industry?

Fear. The industry has always been an easy target. So, they do not meddle with everything that is political. Clicking on a selfie with the prime minister is one thing, but defending a film that threatens in some way or makes unsafe opposition from several parties across India is another. There was a mahagatbandhan standing against my movie. From Sharad Pawar to Stalin, all wanted to ban my film.

Were you always inclined to politics?

Generally, it is said that retired actors become politicians. I think I am a retired politician turned actor. What people do not know about me is that I was a very successful political student. I was secretary general of Mithibai College [in Mumbai] and then representative of the university. I won the elections at the University of Bombay and also became GS.

I spoke as an independent because I refused to bow to the intentions of others. This is probably the same reason why I do not enter active politics. I was offered a ticket from national parties to regional parties. For me, it is difficult to draw a political line that is not mine. It is unacceptable to say if I belong to a right-wing party and one of my senior politicians makes a humiliating statement about women or a statement that divides,

Why do not dispute as an independent, as the actor did Prakash Raj this time?

This is a very big name. But I do not know how much work he will do. I think you can make party machines work and influence them. In the last 11-12 years, much of my work in the social sector has been possible because I have moved away from politics. I have built three schools in Uttar Pradesh. Over the past decade, we have saved 2,200 girls through the DEVI project (Vrindavan Girl Development and Empowerment Initiative).

The Electoral Commission severely criticized your film, calling it hagiography. Your comment.

The first thing I did was to consult the dictionary to find the meaning of hagiography. I wondered how many of those people who have watched my film have a film background or are well equipped to criticize a movie. I believe that they are now critical in terms of elections.

We had a polling phase starting that day and all the most prominent members, from the Chief Election Commissioner, were discussing my film. I was wondering how you have the time? When I showed the film to the nine officers, I asked them not to talk about it. Did you like the movie? "I can not share their answer, but I was happy to hear it."

So, why would they do such a thing? An evaluation then?

There There is a lot of pressure on EC, and their change in position and brutal behavior suggests that the Supreme Court has said that no one can stop you once you have obtained a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. I knew that my film was being refused an exit, I asked if my promotions could continue.Me said until May 19th that you can not.I thought the code of moral conduct was not applicable after the elections in Mumbai and in other cities.

Speaking of criticism, did you criticize Narendra Modi in the biographical film? [19659002] It's not a documentary, I'm not here to present facts. emotional age, an inspiring story. You may think that people of modest origins would feel intimidated by the fact that their education does not match that of world leaders. But here he is frank, walking to the tip of his toes and chatting with all these international leaders, being so technology savvy, so much progress. Any inspiring story deals with how you overcome the challenges, all of which appear in the film.

You were one of the first actors to follow the OTT movement with Amazon Prime, the Inside Edge show. Tell us about Season 2.

I was bored of the work I was doing in movies. There was this opening and against all the advice, I jumped on it. I remember Farhan [Akhtar] Ritesh [Sidhwani] and Karan Anshuman varied so I would not do it because he's a dark character. I said I have a problem with that, it's that it's not dark enough. We collaborated and decided to push the limits of the Vikrant Dhawan. He ended up being an incredibly complex and intense character. The day my movie comes out, we start shooting Inside Edge 3.

This medium is the future. It's fascinating and liberating. There is no censorship and stories can be structured in a way that you can not do at the movies. You can go out and explore.
