What happened to Jon Snow at the end of Game of Thrones?

Although it was generally expected that he would die, that he would become king or that he would become the prince who was promised, or that he knew another great end important, things ended up humbly enough for Jon Snow. After killing his queen / aunt / aunt, Jon Snow is not automatically badigned the throne, although he is technically the legitimate heir of the Seven Kingdoms.
