Olivia Colman won her first Oscar this year. At the 91st Oscars ceremony, Olivia was honored by the best actress in a leading role for her work in The Favorite. A few months before her Oscar win, Olivia Colman went to India in search of her roots: that of Kishanganj in Bihar.

In an episode of the British documentary series Who Do You Think You Are, Colman went to India with the links she had with the country. The actress is very surprised to find that her family, which according to her, "has never lived anywhere, but that Norfolk" has a connection with India.

Colman's great-great-great-grandfather, on the mother's side, was born in Saint Helena off the coast of Africa. Richard Campbell Bazett, his ancestor, had worked in London and Kolkata as an employee of the East India Company. Colman, during the episode, discovers that his Indian roots go back to Kishanganj, where Bazett's son, Charles, had a wife called Harriot. Harriot happens to be the great-great-great-great grandmother of Colman. Harriot was born in Kishanganj in 1807.

Once in Kishanganj, Olivia goes to the former British club Kishanganj, where she discovers Harriot's marriage certificate. Olivia would have the possibility, it seems, to say that Harriot's mother was not British and that she was "most likely" a local lady.

When his father was three or four years old, his father died. Harriot's grandmother then paid for her to be taken from India to England

Olivia then discovered that Harriot had returned from England to Calcutta at the age of 24 or 25 years. Harriot married William Trigg Garrett in 1832, realizes Olivia. However, Harriot disappears from the official archives after the death of her husband in 1833.

In 1838, Harriot remarried. This time, Charles Young Bazett. Harriot and Charles returned to India in 1838, after their marriage.

Olivia Colman later said: "I thought that there was no exotic person in my family, I was so wrong! … I did not no clue that India was playing I am very surprised how much I cared about her, someone I had never heard of before. Then find out that her mother was a woman from the Kishanganj region, that's what's more exciting … "
