Merchant (who also appears in the role of Zak's girlfriend's father) and his sense of humor make a story that might have looked like the 2000 anti-death film, Ready to Rumble . Instead, Merchant leads with his heroes the sport of the working clbad: they are frank, proud and hilariously inappropriate. That's what makes Saraya stand out in the ring, and it's what makes her so eager to watch on the screen.
Saraya is initially known as Britani in the ring, but WWE has already done so. has a diva with that name, so she becomes Paige. It's a simple and homogeneous message, but it's a necessary message to tell the stories of female athletes.
The film's approach to femininity in the WWE is even more satisfying. At first, Paige feels opposed to her female counterparts, who judge them according to their appearance and their behavior at the surface. But eventually they bond with each other and develop a true fellowship, forming a new family. It's welcoming and charming … especially since these women are arguing for a position that will allow them to fight in the ring.
Fighting With My Family describes professional wrestling in a blockbuster style that has rarely been seen on the big screen. The excitement of seeing Paige climb the ladder of WWE is triumphant – there are nuances of Rudy here, embellished with a little of Happy Gilmore . I'm not even a wrestling fan, but even myself, I've been impressed by how the film presents the magnitude of events like WrestleMania. The film places you in the ring alongside Paige, surrounded by 20,000 delirious fans. It's a sequence that was shot in one hour space at a real WWE event with the support of the company, and that really sells the experience .
And of course, there are a handful of real professional wrestlers who make cameos. , including Dwayne Johnson as himself (where he casts a hilarious jab at co-star of the Fast and Furious franchise, Vin Diesel).
Of course, this is a sports film based on the usual tropes clichés. There are many training mounts (imposed by Vince Vaughn as a WWE scout / sarcastic coach), mistakes that Paige did not make along the way and, since is a true story, a final climb. However, Merchant mixes the formula by also tracking Zak as he struggles to fall behind. It may be a story about following your dreams, but also accepting the fact that life is not over if you do not do it.
