#WTFWednesday: Forget about Bhabhi Daayan Mohona, it's the Hagrid lookalike in Nazar that holds our attention

Honestly, when the first Nazar promo was released, we were quite intrigued. The first episode was pretty scary too with the actress Monalisa playing Mohona / Daayan evil with flying colors. The story has gone pretty well in its supernatural genre. Over time, we have witnessed the introduction of evil entities such as Bhaisasur, Sarpika, Chudail, Asuraansh, dukayaan and metalkee vetal (zombies). All this was understandable, as most of them had distant connections to Indian folklore. We now have Piya (Niyati Fatnani) who turns into a siren to save her baby, Adi. Well, Mohona made this little boy a tiny boy and the beloved mother had to make the sacrifice to save her child. If Piya, living on a rock in the sea was not enough, we have a group of sailors trying to capture it. As you know, she is a jalpari (siren) and pearls made from the tears of mermaids are sold at exorbitant prices.

We could have digested anything if the context was a little Indian. After all, this is a desi show with tantrics, Guru Maas, Daayans and Saarp-Rajs making appearances from time to time. But sirens in Indian folklore? We have trouble remembering it. Two years ago, pictures of a creature had become viral and many claimed that it was a mermaid. Later, it turned out to be an animatronic creature with a motor sculpture. Ok, let's relax. If a show can have a daayan and a chudal dance together on Dola Re Dola, anything can happen, right? But what about the angle of the Caribbean pirates!

We see how the Piya is attacked by rather cannibalistic pirates who are on what looks like a boat. On Nazar, we see women and men using a phone to convey relevant information about supernatural events. Here we have a ship driven by a wheel. He is as old as possible. The sea must be imaginary or tell us what part of India it is. We may have been guilty of asking too much logic for the series, but the coexistence of cell phones with ruffled blouses, and so on. with wheeled boats seems a bit too much.

Sirens have been part of Western folklore for years. Sailors from around the world have been talking about sirens sightings. A Naag-kanya living under the sea would have been a better option. But it is the call of the decision makers! BTW, did you notice, the sailor with this huge mop looks a lot like Hagrid from the Harry Potter movie? We must see if the Potterheads forgive that to the authors.
