Xiaomi Mi A2 starts getting Android 9 Pie beta update

Slowly and steadily Android phone makers are bringing Android 9 Pie to their phones. Smartphone companies like Sony, HMD, OnePlus, and others have updated some of their compatible phones to Google’s latest operating system. Xiaomi has also joined the bandwagon. The company is rolling out the Android 9 Pie software update in beta to its second Android One phone, Mi A2, launched earlier this year. The Android 9 Pie on the Mi A2 comes along with November security patch which in addition to some new features bring general bug fixes and improvements.

As mentioned, the Android 9 Pie is rolling out to the beta users for now and we expect Xiaomi to officially roll out the OTA update to happen very soon. Xiaomi, however, is yet to officially announce about Mi A2 getting the Android 9 Pie update. But now that the update is in its beta stage, it won’t be wrong to say that the stable build of the update is close to official release.

With the Android 9 Pie update, the Xiaomi Mi A2 will get updated with all the features that Google’s latest operation system packs. The features include – new navigation gestures, adaptive battery and brightness options, app actions, slices, improved security features, Digital Wellbeing, new accessibility menu, new screenshot shortcut, among others. In addition to these new features, the November security patch also brings general bug fixes and improvements to the Mi A2.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 was launched in India for a starting price of Rs 16,999. This is for the 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage variant. The smartphone is available in four colours in India — Black, Gold, Lake Blue, and Rose Gold. The Mi A2 has already received appraises about its bloatware free software, and with the Android 9 Pie, we expect Xiaomi to further improve the user experience. The Mi A2 currently runs a stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

The Mi A2 Android One phone sports a 5.99-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with a 2160x1080p resolution. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processors which also run phones like Vivo X21, Nokia 7 Plus, and BlackBerry Key 2. The Mi A2 also comes with impressive cameras for its price segment. The phone comes with a 20-megapixel camera on the front paired with a soft LED flash. The selfie camera of the Mi A2 uses AI for better portrait shots.

On the rear panel, the Mi A2 includes a primary camera of 12-megapixel Sony IMX 486 sensor and a secondary camera of 20-megapixel Sony IMX 376 sensor. The rear camera setup also comes paired with a dual LED flash. The smartphone features by a 3,000mAh battery paired with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 technology support.
