Cleveland Indians third baseman, Jose Ramirez, will undergo surgery for a fractured hamate bone in his right hand. He was placed on the list of injured, announced Sunday the team.
Ramirez, who beats .254 with 20 homers and 75 RBIs in 126 games this season, will have the procedure in New York on Monday. There is no immediate schedule for his return.
Two-star Ramirez earned an MRI after being knocked out in the first leg of Saturday's game against Kansas City after missing a field.
The injury could be a blow to Indians' hopes in the playoffs as they try to catch up with the Minnesota Twins, who hold the top spot, in Central AL.
Director Terry Francona said that Ramirez, aged 26, suffered from a wrist wrist pain, but that the injury had occurred in a different area of the joint.
The injury is the last hurdle for the Indians. Cy Young's double winner, Corey Kluber, has been absent since May 1st with a broken arm and starter Carlos Carrasco is being treated after a diagnosis of leukemia.
Utility Mike Freeman replaced Ramirez in Saturday's game and got two hits and a run-up.
The Indians have called field player Yu Chang from Triple-A Columbus.
