Raymond Childs III, 17, has also been charged with the attempted murder of a brother who fled the family home after the first shooting and carried an unlicensed handgun, according to court documents shared by the county prosecutor’s office by Marion.

He is charged as an adult “because of his age and the alleged murder”, according to a statement from the prosecution.

Childs is represented by the Marion County Public Defender Agency, which would not comment on the charges, the agency told CNN.

“We intend to seek justice for the victims, and to do so in a way that respects the process and all of the circumstances in this case,” Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in his statement.

The murders are the city’s largest death toll for more than 10 years, Indianapolis Metro Police Chief Randal Taylor said on Sunday.

Childs allegedly killed his family members after his father berated him for “leaving home without permission,” court documents show.

Childs reportedly shot and killed his brother Elijah before shooting his father, Raymond Childs, Jr., and stepmother Kezzie Childs.

Detectives also tracked down her late 13-year-old sister. Elijah’s pregnant girlfriend Kiara Hawkins was pronounced dead in a hospital, according to affidavits filed Thursday.

One count includes Hawkins’ unborn child, who was “close to birth,” according to a summary of the autopsy results.

Raymond Childs III’s next court appearance is April 21, according to the prosecution.
