TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – NASA warns that a large asteroid nicknamed 2018 LF16 will approach Earth on August 8, 2023. The asteroid will then be able to cross the Earth's orbit again on August 3, 2024 and August 1, 2025.

In total, there are 62 dates when space rock can touch the Earth, as reported by Express on November 25, 2018.
However, according to NASA calculations, there is a 30,000 chance that the LF16 hits the Earth or a 99.9999967% chance of not touching it.
At the Torino Disaster Scale scale, the value is "zero", which means that the possibility of impact is absent or as close to zero as possible.
But the size and number of dates of the potential impacts make outer space an extraordinary object to follow. At present, the asteroid slides into space at a speed greater than 33,844 km / h or 15.13 km per second.
NASA experts estimate that this asteroid has a diameter of about 213 m (698.8 feet).
If it's not scary enough, the strike force of an object of this size can be as big as that of the 50 billion Megathy Bomba explosion – the most powerful nuclear device ever exploded on the surface of the planet.
Fortunately, according to the European Space Agency (ESA), these large asteroids tend to hit Earth less than once every 1,000 years. And it takes an asteroid whose width is well over six miles (10 km) to produce an extinction rate comparable to that of an asteroid that killed dinosaurs 65 million ago. years.
"Some asteroids are very large and will cause great damage if someone crashes violently on Earth, but their estimated population in our solar system is rather small and more than 90% would have been discovered." None of these asteroids present of risk of impact, "said ESA.
"Some are very small – diameters less than 10 m – and only a small percentage of the population estimates have been found, but any impact will be safe. The main challenge comes from the population of medium-sized objects, ranging from a few tens to several hundred meters in diameter. "
The LF16 asteroid was discovered by NASA's JPL System (Jet Labs) Sentry System – an automatic asteroid surveillance system designed to track the potential risk of hiding impacts in space .
"Sentry is a highly automated collision monitoring system that continuously badyzes the latest catalog of asteroids to detect potential future impacts with the Earth for the next 100 years," NASA said.
"Whenever a potential impact is detected, it will be badyzed and the results released immediately, except in unusual cases where we are seeking independent confirmation," NASA added.
