SURABAYA, KOMPAS.com – As the rainy season approaches, a number of communication routes in the city of Surabaya are more and more beautiful and shady.

This is because there are many colorful Tabebuya trees that bloom and become a concern for many people.

In fact, Tabebuya, which is considered a Sakura flower as in Japan, is being talked about by Internet users and viruses on social networks.

This Tabebuya tree comes from a tropical country, Brazil. However, the Surabaya city government has brought Malang and Kediri to cultivate the tree since 2010. Tabebuya is also grown by farmers of the Surabaya Seed Garden.

Tabebuya that grows in Surabaya has several color variants, namely yellow, pink, white and purple that would have similarities with Sakura flowers.

Surabaya City Government Public Relations Officer Muhammad Fikser said the tabebuya was now spread in several streets of the Surabaya City Protocol. Among other things, Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Darmo and Jalan Raya Gubeng Surabaya.

"Tabebuya's interest has in fact been spread to several places, in remote areas, but especially in the main streets of the protocol," said Fikser Tuesday (27.11.2018).

The flourishing tabebuya seed, according to Fikser, comes from the cultivation of flower growers in the Surabaya Seed Garden. However, the municipal government also brought farmers from Malang and Kediri.

The founder of Tabebuya planting, Fikser added, could not be separated from the initiative of the mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini, even long before being mayor of Surabaya.

However, there were not many Tabebuya tree plantations at that time. The government of Surabaya City has seriously planted a number of species of trees and plants in 2010 in order to rejuvenate the green spaces of Surabaya.

The planting of the Tabebuya tree, in addition to wanting to increase the beauty of the city of Surabaya, can also be a natural habitat for a variety of biota that depend on trees and trees.

According to Fikser, Tabebuya flourishes twice a year, in April and November. In a unique way, flowering of Tabebuya flowers actually takes place during the rainy season. Because normally, says Fikser, Tabebuya flowers can bloom during the dry season.

"It's unique, and in cloudy weather, Surabaya becomes (seems) romantic," Fikser said.
