Singapore – Google Indie Games Accelerator (IGA) has been launched since the end of September. This program guides 30 independent video game developers from Southeast Asia, India and Pakistan.
The advice in this program is provided by mentors from Google and other independent video game developers who have felt effective.
For example, Kamina Vincent of Mountains Games Studio based in Melbourne, Australia. Their first game, Florence, has been downloaded more than 10,000 times since its release last March.
He also did not feel competed with the new independent developer he was sponsoring, although he thought they had the potential to be more successful. He said that in his early days he had helped a lot and that he wanted to do the same.
"In my early days, many people took their time to help me out and they answered my very basic question," said Vincent at a roundtable held at the Google Asia Pacific office in Singapore, Wednesday (28.11.2018).
"And the industry in Australia at that time had just undergone a restructuring. So many people shared their knowledge because they did not want other people to fail,"
Kamina said that she did not want to give the developer advice, but simply to tell him what he should do. He prefers to tell them what he is doing and hopes that knowledge will help them in the future.
While Mark Skaggs, a well-known game producer who previously worked for EA and Zynga, was not afraid that his company would fight to conquer market share with independent developers that he guided. He did not hesitate to share his heavy experiences
According to him, it is not easy to navigate the gaming sector, especially for small studios. That was the reason for helping them.
"On the other hand, it's a difficult business and very difficult to succeed, so sometimes you ask for help, sometimes you bring help," he said. Skaggs on the same occasion.
"It creates a feeling of peers that, when they are more successful, will help you even more," he said.
