Jakarta – One of the components of an electric vehicle that is always imported from the outside is a battery. In this regard, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Ministry of Coordination and Maritime Affairs, said that Indonesia had had for two years a battery factory in Morowali, Sulawesi.

The inauguration plan for the construction of the battery plant will begin on January 11, 2019.

"The batteries manufactured by Morowali in two years are over," Luhut told the MPR / DPR building of the Republic of Indonesia, Nusantara III, Thursday (29.11.2018).

In addition, the production of domestic batteries reduces the selling price of electric vehicles made by children in the country.

"Yes, the bike (Gesits), we always use batteries of old technology. It seems that we will see, if you use this technology, the cost is significantly cheaper, stronger and lighter, the price is significantly cheaper" said Luhut.

At a meeting on the use of domestic alternative energy sources in the Nusantara III building, Luhut said Indonesia could become a major player in battery production.

"We are the main players in the lithium battery, because we have the largest nickel reserves in this sector, we are big players, so we do not know sometimes that we are big players, we just have to fight alone, "said Luhut. (riar / lth)
