Jakarta – Microsoft has signed a major US $ 480 million contract with the US Army to supply at least 100,000 HoloLens earpieces.
Microsoft defeats Magic Leap – manufacturer of augmented reality headsets – under this contract. Naturally, considering that Microsoft is superior in the business market for this product, rather than Magic Leap, which only plays in the consumer products market.
In addition, Microsoft had already sold a number of these helmets to the army. But this new contract calls for greater collaboration between Microsoft and the US military.
HoloLens will be used later for military training and war. And HoloLens controlled by the US military is certainly not an ordinary HoloLens sold to the public, but a headset with a higher standard and additional features such as thermal scanner and night vision.
During the first two years, Microsoft should be able to send 2500 units of the helmet to the US military, as indicated detikINET of The edgeThursday (29/11/2018).
"Augmented reality technology will provide more and better information to soldiers, who are helpful in making decisions," a spokesman for Microsoft said in a written statement.
Cooperation between technology companies and the US military is fairly common in recent years. Although these measures are often challenged by employees, just like Google, after being removed from a US $ 10 billion technology auction for the US Department of Defense after many protests from employees.
